Alphabet
In this context, "alphabet" refers to the inventory of glyphs — the individual signs of the Rongorongo script. A glyph is an abstract sign unit identified by its Barthel number (001–799); the script contains approximately 120 base glyphs. Each glyph may appear in several graphic renderings (variants) across the preserved tablets.
